International Spy Museum

With the recent release of Breach, Robert Hanssen is once again in the public eye and the topic of much discussion. The Hanssen case has been called the the worst intelligence disaster in US history. However, while a great deal is known concerning Hanssen spying activities over the twenty two years that he gave classified documents to the USSR and later Russia, the reason behind his betrayal is still shrouded in a great deal of mystery and controversy. Helping to give answers to the daunting task of ‘why,’ The International Spy museum in DC on November 28, 2007 will open a new exibit on Hanssen. This new exibit is from the unique perspective of his friend and longtime collegue David G. Major, who for 14 years worked with Hanssen at FBI headquarters in Washington DC. A privately owned museum, The International Spy Museum is dedicated to the field of espionage. Located in the Penn Quarter neighborhood of Washington, D.C., and about one block west of the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro station, the museum covers espionioge techniques from the Greek and Roman empires right up to the cold war and today.

Where can you find art, rich culture, deep historic roots, exciting nightlife, fine dining, great music and good ol’ Southern Hospitality? You can find all of this and more in Atlanta, GA. Atlanta is not only a major revolutionary player in American history, but it is also well known for its sports, music, and openness to diversity and culture. If shopping is your thing, Buckhead, one of Atlanta’s most prestigious neighborhoods, has some of the most upscale shops around. In Phipps Plaza and Lenox Square you will find Saks Fifth Avenue, Tiffany & Co. and Burberry. You can also experience Atlanta under the stars at any of Chastain Park Amphitheater’s concerts. Every July, Atlanta holds the National Black Arts Festival, which offers 10-full days featuring over 1,000 artists with dance, music and much more. Atlanta is also well known for a little theme park called Six Flags. It is plain to see that Atlanta has a little something for everybody. The shopping, the music, the festivals and of course the roller coasters. It’s no secret that Atlanta has it all.

Located in the Deep South, Georgia is a state with a long history and a lot of soul. As one of the original 13 colonies, Georgia was a military buffer between the Spanish in Florida and the British in South Carolina. The city of Andersonville is home to the National Prisoner of War Museum where visitors can experience exhibits and artifacts from the American Civil War. Georgia is also rich in African-American culture. This is the state where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was born and where his memorial, The King Center, is located. Macon’s Tubman African American Museum is also a must-see. But there’s more to Georgia than just history. In the western part of the state are the Appalachian Mountains, the oldest mountain range in the world where hikers and campers are sure to have an exciting and memorable adventure. And to the east are green rolling hills that lead to Georgia’s beautiful sandy beaches along the great Atlantic seaboard. Among the many quaint, quiet beach towns along the coast, you’ll also want to visit the famed city of Savannah, which offers great city life right alongside the many natural wonders your bound to find at the coast. Visitors can also catch an Atlanta Braves baseball game at Turner Field to score one grand slam of an evening. Indian Springs State Park and Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge are popular tourist destinations as well. And if that’s not enough, there are also miles of off-road trails, roaring rivers, and scenic country roads to explore. Southern cuisine is also a specialty in Georgia, where you’ll find plenty of comfort food, fresh seafood, fresh peanuts, and delicious pecan pies, to name only a few. All of this served up with a healthy dose of that famous Southern charm is sure to make anyone hungry for more and ready for another unforgettable trip to the great state of Georgia.
